Due date

The due date has come and gone.

I have tried to be patient, knowing that this little one will come when she is ready, but Annie and I are READY!

We have organized every closet, packed the bags, stocked the freezer with meals, and waited 9 long months to make Annie a big sister.

As I laid in my bed last night, I started to visualize our new life with another little girl.

I tried to imagine which girl's features she would resemble. I wondered what individual talents she would possess.

Needless to say, I had to stop my endless questions, and settle into sleep.

I just want to let her know, on probably her last day on the other side, that I can't wait to meet her.

I love her, and I will try to be the best mother I can.

Just come soon. :)

The newest little Roach

My little girls are in love with a new little Roach!

Little Miss Cortney Roach captured their hearts when the Roach family shared their new little sister with them this week.

I loved watching their faces as they held her and loved her.

Maybe tomorrow we will welcome one of these precious spirits into our home!

Swimming...cousins and friends style!

There are very few things better than swimming with cousins and friends on a HOT summer day!
I loved watching as the kids did trick after trick.
They even got up a four-story chicken stack!

Easton has braces!

Look who got braces last week!

Easton!

He has been waiting, literally years, for enough teeth to fall out to get these babies on his teeth!

He counted down the days, and headed into the ortho office with a smile from ear to ear.

These pictures just don't do him justice, because he is one of the few people who look great in braces!

Follow-up pics to come...in about 18 months!

Creek Critters

When I was a child, we lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Not an exciting town by any means, but one that holds very sweet childhood memories of Summer.

We lived at the end of a street that dead-ended into a wooded area. If you cut through the woods, you magically appeared at our elementary school. A shortcut that didn't take the five of us too long to find.

I loved those woods.

Every summer day we had chores to do, but as soon as those responsibilities were done, we were off to explore.

We had a trampoline in our backyard that gave us hours and hours of entertainment, but nothing like those woods.

A place to explore, listen for sounds, and just be kids.

I remember stopping to smell the honeysuckle as it grew up the trees, racing to the school with my brother and sister, and doing cherry-drops from the bar on the playground until we had blistered hands, only to explore back through the woods home for lunch.

Those memories are over 30 years old, but I have not forgotten.

A couple of summers ago, my kiddos discovered a creek in the neighborhood across the street.

At the time, there was not much water and the creek bed was pretty rundown.

Did they care? Not a bit.

They loved it!

Chores were instantaneously done in the morning, lunches were packed and they begged to be on their way.

Unfortunately, life isn't the same as it was in those carefree Louisiana days of my youth.

They have to cross a busy road, I don't know who lives near those woods who might see them and want to harm them, and they are out of my sight!

What does a mom do who wants her children to enjoy that same freedom she felt, but be safe from today's dangers?

Pray.

That probably sounds crazy, but I pray. Everytime. Without exception. These prayers are also accompanied by cell phone calls, and me driving over there for face-to-face check-ins, but they are in heaven.

They are kids.

I hope that they will be able to vividly recall their time being kids, bringing lots of critters home for our pond, and how free they felt 30 years from now!

Happy 4th of July!!

THIS is how our family's 4th of July began...

Annie dressed up like a chicken after getting cold from swimming with the kids.

Easton got his first "job" and cut the neighbors property with the riding lawn mover.

John had him pay for gas, wash the John Deere down, and smile for a pic!

Ellie was posing away before they all headed BACK to the pool.

It was a toasty 97 degrees, so the pool became a friend to all of us.

Work a little, swim a little, work a little, swim a little...

Then around 6pm our family and friends arrived to CELEBRATE!

We had all of our usual traditions...BBQ, family and friends, homemade ice cream and brownies and LOTS of fireworks!

Easton smiling after a job well done!

Angela and Madie, two of my favorite people on earth!
Madie and her favorite friend, Becca!
Melissa and Kevin smiling as they watch the kiddos swim and enjoy the night.
Superman even attended our festivities!

Nana and Papa relaxing and taking it all it. Somehow I missed Grandma Dieker, but she was hanging out here as well.

Stephen and Robbie with smiles even after Robbie broke both arm bones in half the day before! Brave boy!!

Hyrum and Lucy enjoying a dip in the pool!

Audrey smiling with shivering Lucy in her lap.

At the end of the night we had very tired kids and parents, proof of lots of fireworks, and a feeling of another successful 4th!
